This week I actually remembered to take some photographs. They are not perfect but at least authentic! For me the highlight in this week’s menu is the tomato risotto. It is again one from Jan Braai, and it is perfect with almost anything.
You can again download the PDF with recipe links or just get some inspiration.
I may have mentioned before – these menus are somewhat backdated. We are currently in a heatwave and I am posting menus with soup and roasts!
This week’s menu is still however not toned down and certainly not conscious of any restrictions. It also contains my very first attempt at a leg of lamb which came out beautifully!
The Lilliputians’ favourite was the pull-apart bread.
This week’s menu has a lot of braai time. Our potjie did his bit and we even had burgers. We tried fancy fish in foil and then there was the perfect curry. Looking back I see the value in the time we spend together without having to rush off somewhere.
The “boontjiesop” was also made on the fire. Now, you will note that I refer to the Afrikaans, because the English translation just does not sound like it should. The recipe is from the WegTydskrif, but I could not find it online. I promise to write it up this week and share it here.
This week we made a chowder and a soup in our trusty potjie. The Engineer also baked roosterkoek.
The happiest accident was the ham and cheese quesadillas, try them you will love them. We made them the same way as the bolognese ones that you can also try.
This week I have a menu that saw us by the braai 6 out of the 7 evenings. Links to various recipes are available and quite a few by Jan Braai. I see that his website was revamped this week so go and take a look!
The highlight for me in this menu is the Moroccan chicken pie. A lifetime ago the Engineer and I (when young and free and able to stay awake later than 8pm) had a date at a cooking school. This specific evening was Moroccan themed, and I think that is probably what kindled my love for Moroccan food as well. On the menu that night was a Moroccan chicken pie, very different from the traditional South African version. It is a blend of beautiful flavours. Try it, you will not be sorry. I was even so impressed with this one that I remembered to take some photographs.
