Spider monkeys

It was the first week… And then a week or two happened in-between where I did not post this. This morning the Engineer let me know that still, in the third week of school there are three of the little ones still crying in the mornings when being dropped off. So I would just like to say to those parents, we see you, we feel for you, but we do not know you to peel your child from around your neck!

So, back to the first day …

Just a little background. The Lilliputians started Grade R this week. It is a new school, with separate classes and up to the first day mostly excitement. I mean the mountain of stationery alone was something to dance about.

The story of a blues show and a wet blanket

This past Saturday evening I took the Lilliputians to a Dan Patlansky show at the Centurion Theatre. In a short summary – they loved it, to say the least. Hannes was playing the drums in the air and Lisa was dancing in her chair while seated. They were intrigued. They were well behaved. They were amazed and excited and we had the best time… but;

Fireside dinner menu # 29 – the holiday highlight edition

To make up for my silence, I will be enticing you with a menu fit for any holiday. Apologies to those who have decided to only eat salad in January.

The stuffed pork neck was a wonderful surprise and loved by all (especially the cook because it was easy AND budget-friendly). Also featured today are Hasselback sweet potatoes, Trinchado, Bobotie burgers and baked meatballs. I did these with beef instead of lamb. The tomato risotto has been posted before, but I am sharing it again, because it might just be my favourite side.

I realised that not all of you know that these are linked. All the underlined dishes have a link to the recipe in the PDF that you can download below… that’s why I bother!

I have been mulling this over for a while now: the notion that we should wrap everyone in cotton wool and not offend, not be harsh, not make any sudden movements or loud noises…

I have come to the conclusion, that it’s not that.

The motivation for emotional tracking

On a rondom Tuesday night, two of my friends and I went out for dinner. When I came home last night I just realised what a privelage to have the opportunity to sometimes just be me and have people in my life who think like me and dream like me and actually understand my job and working environment.

I have previously chatted about emotional tracking and my attempt to give this a try. I have however asked myself quite a few times why I have this need to put in the time and effort and continue going on this self-involved journey time and time again? Why is this a concept that has resonated with me so much? Why am I bothered with things that a lot of people do not even acknowledge? Why is my overthinking mind overthinking the overthinking?
