Why I don’t do Yoga

I started Pilates approximately 3 years ago with a husband-and-wife instructor team, very close to my home. This studio uses various Pilates equipment to torture me and my will to live three mornings a week. I have also not had the same class twice and I am honestly challenged far beyond my capabilities (noncaffeinated!) every time.

At the beginning of a class, I start my Garmin, and up till recently it loaded it as a Yoga activity, which I then had to manually change on Strava every time. And yes, a lot of people would just shrug their shoulders and say, “but it is the same, isn’t it?”. No… it is not. Please pull up a chair for my Friday rant. Please also believe that I am not saying this from my high horse, or reformer. Instead, I am noting and admitting and confessing what my issues are with Yoga, and maybe educating a little in the process as well (I certainly did not know all these thing before I started reading).

Mango chicken casserole

I am never in touch with what is in season when… and for months now I have been craving a mongo chicken casserole, but there were no mangos to be found (even when the recipe urges you to use the canned variety – I could not locate these).

Let me also just put on the record that I do not like mangos on their own, it is a texture thing together with the hassle to eat them, but these mangos add the perfect sweet to the sour, and the nutty taste of the fried peppers just pulls everything together.

When I went for the weekly hunt in the grocery store this weekend, though, mangos were everywhere.

So, it was finally time.

Let me also just put on the record that I do not like mangos on their own, it is a texture thing together with the hassle to eat them, but these mangos add the perfect sweet to the sour, and the nutty taste of the fried peppers just pulls everything together.

In between loadshedding and 6 meetings on Monday I thought that we may need to get takeaways, but I persevered and am so happy that I did.

Yes, you can do it on the fire!

This is the recipe I followed… very vaguely.

We braaied the chicken with a little more spice than only salt and pepper, and I added it to the rest in the pot when it was already done. I served it with pasta rice, but I think couscous would be my first choice. It was loved and devoured by all.

Spider monkeys

It was the first week… And then a week or two happened in-between where I did not post this. This morning the Engineer let me know that still, in the third week of school there are three of the little ones still crying in the mornings when being dropped off. So I would just like to say to those parents, we see you, we feel for you, but we do not know you to peel your child from around your neck!

So, back to the first day …

Just a little background. The Lilliputians started Grade R this week. It is a new school, with separate classes and up to the first day mostly excitement. I mean the mountain of stationery alone was something to dance about.

Half my life

On a manic Monday, just before I run through the door the Engineer stops me while still on the phone. “Wait” he signals with his hand why I am impatiently putting my stuff in the car.

From his pocket, he pulls a tiny little gift. “Happy twenty years” he says as I am closing the boot.

Wow. Idiot that is me had forgotten.

So I thought I would tell you about this day, 20 years ago. If you knew us then there may be familiar references. If you still know us now… thank you for hanging around.

The story of a blues show and a wet blanket

This past Saturday evening I took the Lilliputians to a Dan Patlansky show at the Centurion Theatre. In a short summary – they loved it, to say the least. Hannes was playing the drums in the air and Lisa was dancing in her chair while seated. They were intrigued. They were well behaved. They were amazed and excited and we had the best time… but;
