Planning ahead

After a lovely break in the Eastern Cape, my tribe is no back at home. We arrived back on Thursday and have been doing mostly… washing (because adulting is laundry).

Let us also be honest, there is nothing as motivating and inspiring as the start of a new year. And that inspiration probably lasts well into the first day back at work until you realise that your low carb intentions actually suck and that your goal to drink more water is not as satisfying as the third cup of coffee. Some form of discipline is required for those days when motivation does not show up for work. Because good intentions only count if you follow through.

In my last post of 2020, I chatted about my stop-start-continue-exercise, which morphed into a goalsetting exercise. This confirmed the importance of planning ahead in my anxiety driven overthinking brain. But where is that line? The one where you plan ahead without feeling overwhelmed? I have to admit that I have not found it yet. I did however take time to sit down this morning and do my week-at-a-glance layout.

The spread that I am trying out has a column for the logistics (appointments and who has to be where when). This column does not include work appointments as those are dealt with by my Outlook calendar. It includes a column for the menu for the week – because my life is ruled by food! And the last column is for my exercise regime. I realised that that simply does not happen if it is not scheduled. On the right-hand side of the page, there are two blocks. The one is for the goals for this week – my effort to keep myself accountable. The other for random things that need to happen at some time this week.

And then of course, in my life, it does not count if it is not pretty. For this week’s layout I used washi tape and got all coordinated with my fine liner.

Also a fun little realisation, I am now convinced that some pens work better for my handwriting than others. Here I am using the Pilot G-2 07 – what a happy accident.

So yes, this post is super self-involved. But then again… This is my blog after all. The truth is however, I have been in a little blogging slump, probably because I have been out of my routine. This is my attempt at getting back into it… This was scheduled for today… I can now happily tick it off my list.

Have a lovely week and good luck to all of you who are returning to work after the festive season.
